RIP David: Loss of a great fan

We have some sad news to share today.

Last week, we lost a great Barenaked Ladies fan and fellow member of the @getbarenaked community, David Ryave. You may have known him online as @gordonrascal.

David’s son, Daniel, shared some memories of his dad and the band:

“My favorite memories with my Dad always included BNL. We followed them across the country and to Canada frequently.

We once ended up at the same hotel in Cleveland the night after seeing them perform in Columbus. Ed threw me his pick in Columbus and I had the chance to thank him for it in Cleveland. It was the coolest thing to ever happen to a 7-year-old in BNL’s history. I still remember Ed telling me, “Don’t sweat it” after I thanked him.

I could go on and on about my memories with my Dad and BNL, but suffice it to say that most of my good memories wouldn’t exist without Ed, Jim, Kevin, Tyler, and even Steve”.

David was very active in the Barenaked Ladies community, writing several blogs for our site, including this recent review of Silverball, and this moving post about his BNL fandom.

Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with their loss.

RIP David.
